Finally just dismounted from my 7 day duty at Tuas naval base....Quite a few things happened recently. First is the outbreak of swine flu in Mexico, therefore Singapore govt, being kiasu, has raised the alert level from green to yellow to orange. Orange code means that for us doing land side duties have to wear mask and gloves when on duty as we will be directly in contact with the incoming drivers and walk in personnel to our base...just like Sars episode 6 years ago... sian....
Another thing is that i have secured a place in NTU (i used to go there for fyp) and i will be reading a Master degree in Chemistry and Biological Chemistry. I will commence my uni study next yr Aug,so i will have to request for disruption of NS from my unit TDS (Tuas Defence Squadron) for one month...As u know, 1 month does make a lot of diference....anyway,Congrats to myself! :)
Feeling very tired now,so i going to sleep now....Good nite and have a sweet dreamz.... :p

I shall just blog for a while before i go to bed for tomorrow's mounting duty. I have started my OJT last friday(which is yesterday). So far not so shack yet....our duty post quite slack sia...haha..thats all i can blog about my camp....

Yes, i passed out from Sea Soldier Course (SSC) loh....
Hey everyone so sorry that i din blog for such a long time. All right, after being absent for 2months, i shall update what happened for the past 2 months,be it in ssc or outside camp....
Firstly, i have successfully passed out from my ssc, which was the 19th batch. In addition, on that passing out day on last friday, i have also managed to do 6 chin-ups for my IPPT,thus i was granted a conditional pass, which means i have managed to pass this ippt (with chin-up being the only station i failed previously) together with previous ippt results. In all, i am really very delighted that i have come to make such a good achievement. To many, a pass in ippt is nothing but to me,its a great achievement cuz for the past 7 years since sec sch i have never passed a single NAPFA or IPPT test before. Besides, SSC has helped me improve on my 2.4km run timing from 13:00 to 11:20,which is a great improvement and also my standing broad jump(SBJ) has "jumped" from 195cm to 225cm...thats the wonder of SSC,i just cant believe that i can achieve a pass in ippt ever in my life.....so if those just passed out from BMT and has been posted to sea soldier vocation, pls dun be sad or demoralised cuz SSC will make u become even stronger person,be it physically or mentally. Trust me. If i can do it, so can you.
Yes, SSC have indeed changed mi into another person who has more self confident and physically fitter, with all the swim lessons and AGR runs in the morning daily. All the effort i have put in has indeed paid off. Praise the Lord for giving me the strength to be able to do 6 chin ups and pass my final ippt! I will continue to train hard and aim for a silver for ippt....Amen.
During this 10 weeks of SSC, i am assigned to this section Shield. (the iother 3 being Spear,Strike and Storm). i have attended all the programs without getting a single status, such as physical training (AGR and speed training), weapon training (SAW, M203,GPMG,M16S1,P226),swims lessons, fire fighting and chemical defence course @CDA, Control n Restraint, section training, urban ops, and finally the basic seamanship course. I must say the 10 weeks in ssc is damn siong. with all these training programs mentioned earlier packed in the 10 week schedule, it can really make u so demoralised.
Not just all these, we all still have other routine which are done daily such as do 12 chin ups (assisted) before meals, and standby area, bed, bearings,pt shoes, and other silly things u can think of....standby like siao. Besides that, we still have to march from Panglima to 215 (2km long) in clean fatigue,SBO or FBO most of the time. By the time, we reach the destination,be it Panglima or 215 (Home of the sea soldiers), our smart 4 will become damn sweaty....but usually after reaching to 215 we have water parade,so should be ok.....Oh yea in ssc, all the trainees are required to shave their head to even shorter than bmt hairstyle...wtf, its like going bk to bmt....well,ssc is really like my 2nd bmt...haha...and somemore we have go back to the olden days of army where we all have to iron and starch uniforms and jockey caps, kiwi boots until kiwi shine like crystal shine and no touching of bed until RO is over...sian ah,ssc is such a f***** up vocation.....
Well, despite all these, some of the nice instructors are here to help us. these are my appraisal of the instructors in ssc:
2SG Gopi (PS): When he shout, he can be really intimidating...So "u all better wake up your idea!" or double or he'll pump u like hell...(30 push-ups is no joke!).... anyway he always like to find people whose timing around 12min to keep pace with...he's getting less fitter man,as i always see him struggle during 2.4km run in ippt.
2SG Matthew Mak (ACSM): the most f***** up person i have met in ssc. Always like to tekan ppl alot, especially when we din meet his std of march...his pet phrase is "Hello!" in a sharp and sarcarstic manner...It is rumoured that he doesn't have a pleasant childhood and teenagehood in secondary school days...just like mi,i can understand how he feels...To think he dare to label us the Girl Guides,Pussy of the seas...
3SG Gerald Chee: My sect commander (Shield). Can say that he's my section's most fav instructors cuz so far he never tekan us b4.. hehe..anyway we are like good friends. can talk cock under the sun...Ever since i met him in 2pdf for RP course, i knew that he's very slack one and i am so glad to be in his section..haha
3SG Monty (Montgomery) : His name is very unique. Not sure if he's pure singaporean anot, but when u see his face, u wun believe that he's only 20 this yr when his face tells u that he look around 24 or 25...
3SG Gulshanpal Singh: A "horny" sergeant. Always love to disturb and make fun of his trainees like Pte Tan zhi wei, he named him as "Pte Too Tall" as zhi wei always hunch back cuz of his height....haha...and also sgt gul like to make fun of zhiwei many times, like he asked zhiwei how do he kiwi his boots? then gul says must use pre-cum....haha! anyway, since he always like to disturb ppl, whenever i see his face, i cant help laughing.... :D
3SG Yi Long: A person with nice personality. but he like to keep blinking his eyes. anyway he look older than his actual age, appear to look around 27. he's only 20 this yr....haha to think when i first saw him i tot he's NSman....lol!
3SG Shaun Marcus Joseph: Look at his name and u can tell that he's of mixed blood parentage. He's a Eurasian. Though he's a nice person, he always appear to look arrogant and cool. Just dun like the way he speak....sux!
3SG Valentine Chris: Admin specialist. When comes to range, ippt or imt or swim cat test detailing,he's always the one in charge. No wonder he can rmb all his trainees' names very well. He's also the future ACSM for next batch, according to what my section mate said. He's damn nice man,hehe...
3SG Jian Sheng: One of 5 new ssc instructors. Looks innocent but it was during the interview then i realised he is quite lone ranger among other instructors. just cant believe it...
3SG Wei Tze: Seems a nice person, but i dunno him that well. Not much to comment. But he can be good looking when he wear contact lens.
3SG Firdaus: A siao on instructor. he's specialised in training the Gold potential trainees for ippt. he can do chin up with his chest above the bar. No wonder he can get best PT for his batch. Steady!
MSG Bala: my course sergeant major. most of the time he's my source of motivation, be it during ippt or weapon training, or during AGR runs. when he's present, most of us can go beyond our limit. I am his so-called the "best trainee of the urban ops"....i also why he keep forgetting my name but anyway , Thank u sergeant major! (Favourite pet phrase: Roger? Good to go?)
MSG Loh: My course commander. He plays a major part in helping mi to overcome hydrophobia during swim lessons. he has helped mi a lot during swim lessons, and i learnt a lot from him, especially that day i almost kena drown on one of the lessons. He can str8 away tell mi where i go wrong and why i almost drown and he taught mi the correct way to thread water. Besides, he also coach mi the correct way of doing standing broad jump,SBJ,during the ippt test. indeed,i have get a silver standard for this after several attempts. Thank u sir!
Other than those mentioned above, other instructors i met are 3SG Yong sheng,Ivan,Ming Gen,Kai Han and Thong Hao.
Also, i would like to thank Shield 1 ppl (Privates Zhiguang,George,Sulaiman aka Madam,Jun Chong from NDU and also Nick Tan my "buddy") for being there for mi throughout the ssc.Without u guys, i wouldn't be so much happier as compared to my bmt section mates. I will always remember u guys and the happy and sad memories we had even if we go separate ways from ssc. shield one rocks!

all rite, after not blogging for so long, let mi tell u guys about sea soldier vocation. basically the first 3 weeks i am posted to Clementi camp for RP regimental policemen course and it is a stay out course,so i can go home everyday. RP course is 2weeks long actually, but due to new yr and christmas,it is dragged to 3 weeks...hahaha...the life there is definitely slack,as it is very lecture-based and very little practical...
then after RP course we moved on to the sea soldier course, the main actual thing. its 10 weeks long and we all have to stay in at Panglima and the camp is at Changi Naval base. From then, the "torture" starts.... its really worse than BMT. i have met many instructors there and i found most of them really fucked up... it was then i realised how much i miss my days in Tekong...haiz...dun have much spare time to blog further now as i have to pack my barang barang and book in tonight at 9pm at tanah merah mrt...4 more hours to book in...today is 2nd day of lunar new yr lei...damn sian lo as i still in the CNY mood... :(
Will blog more in detail next time...See ya

POP loh! (part 2)
ok,我气消了, i will now briefly talk about my 3 months in BMTC in Tekong since i can't really talk much about my training here for security reasons. I was enlisted on 15th sept 2008 and POP on 10th dec 2008, so i have spent 3 months in Tekong. during the 1st 4 weeks in tekong, it was my PTP (physical traing phase) period, since i have failed my NAPFA tests in SP last yr so have to come in earlier to train mi for the upcoming IPPT (individual physical proficiency test). Wah, let mi tell u, the 1st 2 weeks in tekong was really siong as i'm not used to the environment here and secondly my muscles was very painful during these period as all the CPT1 and CPT2 exercises made us so shag as i'm not really trained previously. We have quite a lot of physical exercises everyday during the 1st 2 weeks adjustment period (or rather say confinement period, since we can't book out on 1st weekend)..haha...
then later on, we moved on to BMT phase where all the real combat training will commence. we realise that our physical training program have reduced quite a lot and we focused mainly on combat skills such as Technical handling of SAR21 weapon , 6 days field camp, hand grenade (HG) throwing, live firing range, BCCT, SOC and lastly the 3 days Sitest where all the recruits will be tested on their potential to be future commanders in SAF. Our BMT is ended with a finale 24km route march in P. Tekong.
Well, during the 3 months in Tekong, life is definitely not as easy as before we are enlisted when we are living in comfort of sheltered homes. there's certainly regimentation and discipline when u serve NS,be it in SAF, police, or SCDF. Certain things like shaving our head to "botak" (skinhead), wake up (reveille) early in the morning, 'kiwi' army boots, fold smart-4 uniforms, water parade, 5BX in the morning, marching from place to place, sing army songs,watever..etc. has became part of our army life. i must say say that i really cant get used to the life there during the 1st 2 weeks there as to mi, it is really a big transition from a civilian to a soldier ( pink NRIC ----> green 11B)...haiz....=(
So on my first day in Tekong, i realised that i get into Zulu Company, located in 3km from BMTC HQ...sian,must take tonner to go there...then i get to know our Company sergeant major (CSM), SSG Bruce Lee SM. Our OC (officer commanding) is CPT Lim Zhifeng ( a very nice officer i have ever seen). Then my platoon sergeant (PS) is 2SG Clifford Au Yong (who ORD on 11th nov 2008),cnow replaced by 3SG Sahlan. My section commander is 3SG Fauzi. The other section commanders are 3SG Qai and 3SG Yin Chi,my fav commanders among 4 of them. lastly i got to know my platoon commander (PC), 2LT Hatta who later on promoted to Coy 2IC, so the Platoon 4 PC is replaced by 2LT Greg Tan,the most garung pc i have ever seen....
Of all the commanders i have mentioned, my OC, CPT Lim, has gave mi the deepest impression. Not because of his rank, but because of his pleasant personality. In my impression of the officers, they are supposed to be very fierce and domineering and love to exercise their authority. but CPT Lim was different. the first time i talked to him was when we were having 3km route march. I was holding on to the coy flag for some time then it was that time CPT Lim bagan to know and recognise mi. i also remembered how he encouraged mi to overcome my fear of clearing the Jacob's ladder, one of the SOC obstacles. Anyway, Sir Lim was really a nice person as he really cared for our personal well-being and he has tried his best to make sure our days in bmtc will be memorable. Thank u, sir!
still, i thanked all commanders who have put in their 100% effort in training me to be a soldier. they are :
3SG Fauzi (my sec com) - thank u for 'fucking' mi until i learnt how to handle SAR21. and thank u for sharing so many things abt mi with ur good friend,3SG Fazly,haha..
3SG Qai- thank u for training mi to be more fit by "knocking me down" on the last day of field camp
3SG Sahlan - thank u for being understanding, being my counsellor and waking mi up to my sense when i did something wrong or am still very "blur". i have really learnt a lot from u, platoon sergeant!
3SG Yin Chi- thank u for walking the 16km re-route march with mi and George, and also singing with us the oldies songs during the re-route march. u are the best sergeant i have ever seen b4!
2LT Hatta- thank u for being so concerned about my leg injuries during Sitest. u are such a good safety officer. thank u so much for ur words of encouragement when u are still my pc!
2LT Greg Tan- thank u for scolding mi so harshly during field camp and charging mi with one weekend confinement that i really woke up to my sense and began to learnt my lessons with sincerity.
Thank u, all commanders in Zulu Platoon 4! i will not forget u guys for teaching mi a lot of valuable things that i cannot learn outside army. I am lucky and proud to be in Zulu Coy! Zulu Rox!
then later on, we moved on to BMT phase where all the real combat training will commence. we realise that our physical training program have reduced quite a lot and we focused mainly on combat skills such as Technical handling of SAR21 weapon , 6 days field camp, hand grenade (HG) throwing, live firing range, BCCT, SOC and lastly the 3 days Sitest where all the recruits will be tested on their potential to be future commanders in SAF.
Zulu Rox!

POP loh!!! (Part 1)
yes, i finally POP le...POP = Passing out parade, but nowadays for dunno-wat-reason,it becomes Graduation Parade (GP). I POP on last wednesday,10th dec 2008. this day is really significant to me as it offically marks the end of my BMT (basic military training) in P. Tekong. i must say that the 13 weeks in Pulau tekong seems long yet rather short. I felt a sense of achievement when i have completed 24km route march in P. Tekong earlier on the same day. I must say,its not easy but the thought of going to POP in the afternoon spurs me on. Yep!
During the 13 weeks in Tekong. i have gone through a lot of ups and downs. I have learnt a lot of valuable lessons there. At the same time, i have met some of the sergeants and officers who are very nice in person (though they can really fuck u at times,ha!). I am very lucky to met some nice friends there in my attached company (Zulu Company) such San Yang ( my very 1st friend i met in Tekong), Fauzi, Marcus and Alex from Platoon 3, Frankie Wong and Wai Yiu from Platoon 2, William from Platoon 1 and Syamil,Adnan,Kevin, Andrew, Zhiwei and George from my platoon,Platoon 4.
Having mentioned about Platoon 4, i have a lot to comment about cuz i really hate this platoon a lot! Dun worry, i'm not hating everyone in my platoon, or i wouldn't mention those few friends from platoon 4 as nice people. Why i hate platoon 4? Its a long story to begin with. In fact they have so much to discuss about my personality and hygiene problems, so eventually i blur blur become their sabo targets when the need arises. Ever since Platoon Sergeant Sahlan spoke to mi about my BO (body odor) problems, i have been trying hard to change my way of living like washing laundry everyday when time allows and bath at least twice a day to minimise my BO. if possible, i will apply deodorant to cover the smell. In the end, they still keep mi at bay. As a result, i have to 自动跑到后面去fall-in, since 每个人都不喜欢站在我旁边。It's like, whichever row i stand, anyone who see mi standing in that row will move to the front row. Even that ABC Benedict said i'm so "influential" in this platoon. Well,i'm fully aware of my problems. But so what? As if i'm gonna care what they said about me. i'm still Elvin,ok? (only in camp everyone there address mi as Ernest).
应为有一次Sitest 我整只腿发肿,脚趾发很大的水泡(blister),刚好George 那时也是脚受伤,the following week we missed the 16km route march together and on status the whole week, 所以我们就应为这样变得很熟落。 有时候,当有人跟我讲话,我没有回应他们,所以他们以为我很"zhuai".... the truth is, i can‘t hear anything at all sometimes, so i never catch what they said. George also said that i'm too quiet liao, thats why 我被冤枉也没有protest or justify myself, and i always kena scolded by commanders until 很严重,我的buddy Yanjie 也渐渐的没有跟我说话,简直都不像buddy咯,就连其它的bunkmate 都比我跟了解他。。。
I'm getting irritated with this platoon 4. I have spoke to PS Sahlan before, he advised me to bear with this platoon for a few more weeks before we POP,since we were half way thru already. well,忍就忍咯。。。Some people in this stupid platoon are really bastard. ok let mi u tell who are they: Desmond Ho, Jon Wong Si Tze, Julian, Ong Zhi yu, Edward,Shan, Jonathan Lee & Chua, Tan Yu Tai, Goh Weiyang, Ong sin Han,Kenny,Nijo-Runcee Neo,Robin,Ng De Rong aka Garung (Guni), Jay Wong, and Lee Wenxiang!
Seriously, these are the people whom i really hated. they have insulted, humilated and teased mi in a sarcastic manner. Imagine u having to tolerate all these shit throughout the whole BMT. this is why i'm so ashamed to be in Platoon 4. Yes, i'm at fault also, but that doesnt mean what they do is right! they have NO right to insult mi in anyway,to think they all kept quoting PS sahlan's words during field camp "pls dun insult one another!" in a sarcastic manner. all these words are meant for them! i really 受够了!
Enough comment about this platoon 4. From now onwards, i will no longer be known as Ernest, but Elvin Lim Chye Hin. I believe my life will be much better in my new unit,so i'm so happy now that i dun't have to see Zulu Platoon 4 anymore!!! =D
